NY - 12/20/22, PUSH urges Legislature & Gov Hochul support

New York State law currently does not include parents who have experienced a stillbirth; nor provides all birthing parents with the time needed to heal; New Legislation (S.9424) would provide parents with 12 weeks of paid leave after birth. Speakers: Count the Kicks Ambassadors & PUSH for Empowered Pregnancy Changemaker Volunteers 53:45 Nora Nicholson, Mother of Bryce (w/ 57:22 Yuvelca Magdalena Reyes, Native NYer - Birth & Death Doula - Brainspotting Practitioner & Childbirth Educator)

Currently, all parents qualify for 12 weeks of Paid Family Leave until they receive the devastating news that their child has died in the womb or during labor. This is happening to 5 New York families a day. Bill Sponsors Senator Tim Kennedy and Assembly woman Jenifer Rajkumar joined ABC's The Bachelor Television Personality Ashley Spivey and other parents and advocates to explain this gap in the law and support legislation to bring change.

Part of being a Caregiving Compassionate Team is helping supportive family members or friends and other professionals understand that grief is, in many ways, a forever thing. Your loved one, your client, and a bereaved family doesn’t just need your support in the immediate aftermath of loss, but also in the years to come.

Stillbirth is a traumatic event!


Research in neuroscience shows that if whenever WE witness or experience trauma, our brains can actually take on a different structure. Trauma causes a psychological injury and may cause PSTD, Depression and Anxiety in many people. Research shows trauma creates an imbalance - certain areas of the brain become hyperactive, while others are less active.
